However, the 81-year-old musician did not return to the stage for his encore at Movistar Arena.

Eric Clapton‘s Madrid concert ended on a bitter note after a fan hit him with an object. The 81-year-old musician was struck in the chest by a large object towards the end of his concert in Madrid on May 7. As per a tweet by Pablo Rodríguez, Clapton had just performed his 1997 hit “Cocaine” and was soaking in the applause.
At that moment, an anonymous fan allegedly threw a vinyl record in his direction. Clapton’s reaction was brief, but he looked visibly shaken as the crowd collectively voiced their concern. Fortunately, he wasn’t injured, but Clapton, perhaps still shaken by the untoward incident, did not return to perform. Notably, the 81-year-old was supposed to perform a cover of Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me” for his fans (via Entertainment Weekly).
His official fan website clarified, “Eric is fine. We are fans ourselves and we understand everyone is excited to be at the show, but please do not throw anything at the stage. You can seriously injure someone in the band, the crew, venue staff, or even another concertgoer.”
Clapton’s tour continued three nights later in Barcelona without incident. Fans expressed their concern for the 81-year-old musician in the comments. One fan commented, “He is 81 years old and performing. You do not throw things. Sigh.” A second fan wrote, “ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Whoever it was should be charged with assault!!! Total BS!!!”
A third fan penned, “I’m curious what the motivation here was. Why attack an old musician?” A fourth fan remarked, “What is wrong with the world? Why would anyone do something so stupid?”
