Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham made her much-anticipated debut in the 2026 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, quickly drawing an outpouring of support from teammates and fellow athletes who flooded her social media with messages of admiration and encouragement.
Cunningham shared the official photos from her photoshoot at the scenic South Seas Resort on Captiva Island, Florida, from the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition with the caption, “year 1 with @si_swimsuit, AHHHH!”
Women’s World No. 1 golfer Nelly Korda chimed in on the post with an enthusiastic “Okkkk,” accompanied by a fire emoji. Fellow Fever star Caitlin Clark showed her support with a like, while teammate Lexie Hull added to the excitement, commenting, “I mean like…” paired with heart-eye emojis.
“I truly do think, like, go kick a– out on the court, and then go kick a– out in the real world being a woman who is strong, who is powerful and who has a mindset that she can do anything,” Cunningham told Sports Illustrated. She emphasized the importance of embracing both athletic excellence and personal empowerment, encouraging young women to pursue their passions unapologetically and to celebrate their multifaceted identities.
Cunningham has rejoined the Fever for the 2026 season on a one-year contract. Prior to a season-ending MCL tear in her right knee last year, she averaged 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, shooting 43% from beyond the arc in 30 appearances. Off the court, Cunningham continues to make an impact on the game as a studio analyst and regular contributor to USA Network’s WNBA broadcasts.
