‘Running Point’ Renewed For Season 3 At Netflix

Running Point has hit a 3-pointer.
Netflix has renewed the comedy series for a third season. As the show did with the first two seasons, production will continue to take place in Los Angeles.
In Season 1 of Running Point, inspired by the L.A. Lakers and its president Jeanie Buss, when a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.
In Season 2, Isla (Hudson) is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves; she’s the one everyone is watching. With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Justin Theroux). What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition.
As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts. To survive the family power plays and the scrutiny of the board, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top.
In addition to Hudson and Theroux, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Brenda Song, Fabrizio Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, and Uche Agada also star.
Recurring cast includes Romano, Max Greenfield, Jay Ellis, Roberto Sanchez, Jon Glaser, Scott Evans, Rob Huebel, Marissa Reyes, Blake Anderson, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Aliyah Turner, and Jake Picking.
Running Point‘s second season debuted last month to 5.3M views in its opening weekend. That was down quite a bit from Season 1’s opening, but its first full week brought a bit more momentum with 6.7M views. The most positive indicator that Season 2 is bringing some new viewers to the series, and likely a driving force behind the renewal, is that the first season also scored a spot on the Netflix Top 10 from April 27 to May 3 with 2.5M views. Season 2 is still commanding a place on the Top 10 as of this week.
Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen are writers/executive producers, with Stassen serving as showrunner. Hudson, Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis executive produce. Jordan Rambis is a producer. The series is produced by Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling is under an overall deal.
