Exclusive: Dutton Ranch’s Finn Little lifts lid on former co-star Kevin Costner ahead of explosive new spin-off

EXCLUSIVE: When it comes to Hollywood legends, young Aussie Finn Little has worked with the best of them, including Academy Award winning actor Kevin Costner.
The Brisbane teen, now 19, shared the screen with Costner in the hit western series Yellowstone, and returns for the highly-anticipated spin-off Dutton Ranch premiering today.
Looking back at the scenes he did share with Costner, Little could agree: “Yeah, he’s Hollywood royalty.”

“He was definitely a bucket list person to work with,” Little told nine.com.au. “So I’m happy I got to share the screen with him.”
Little joined the franchise playing troubled orphan Carter in Yellowstone Season 4. Costner led the series as patriarch John Dutton III; Dutton Ranch continues his legacy.
“People ask me, what I learned from people I work with and I never have a good answer,” Little admitted.

It was a learning experience nonetheless said the breakout star.
“You just pick up on things subconsciously around the people you work with. I’d say that’s the best way to learn.”
After all, it was Costner’s character that taught Carter how to horse ride.

“Working on Yellowstone on the Chief Joseph Ranch was very different,” Little reflected.
“And to be able to grow up there and spend quite a lot of time there, especially learning to ride, it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world to learn how to ride horses.”
But he teases the new ‘Dutton Ranch’ is unlike anything we’ve seen: “I think it’s got that very gritty Texas feel. I think people are going to like it.”

As far as career highlights go, working with Costner only scrapes the surface of Little’s impressive resume.
By age 11, he made his big-screen debut alongside Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush in 2019’s Storm Boy.
He went on to lead blockbuster thrillers alongside Golden Globe winners Angelina Jolie and Nicholas Cage in 2021 and 2024 respectively.

And as the first two episodes of Dutton Ranch premiere on Paramount+ today, Little reunites with on-screen parents Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.
Or as fans know them: Beth and Rip.

Fans have been begging for the return of the indomitable Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.
This explosive new chapter continues their story – far from the ghosts of Yellowstone and deep in dirt of South Texas. With that, comes brutal new realities and a ruthless rival they must face.
But there’s one reunion Little didn’t see coming. The star “had no idea” fellow Aussie Jai Courtney was cast in the Dutton Ranch series.

“I showed up to [set] early and I remember I ran around a corner and went ‘oh, what’s this guy doing here?’,” he recalled.
That guy was Little’s other beloved co-star in 2019’s Storm Boy.

“That was great, it was really nice to reunite with him,” he said.
“Obviously it’s a little bit of a different relationship from Storm Boy, in Storm Boy he played my dad. In this series, I don’t think he likes me too much,” he laughed.
Sounds like trouble for the Dutton family!
Stream episodes 1 and 2 of Dutton Ranch out now on Paramount+. New episodes drop weekly on Fridays.
