OFA gains vital win over Wildcats; Lisbon, Parishville-Hopkinton win

GOUVERNEUR — OFA’s NAC Central Division baseball game was moved to Gouverneur because of poor field conditions on the Blue Devils’ diamond Thursday.
The Blue Devils made themselves comfortable at the Wildcats’ Mills Street Park and were a model of efficiency in a 6-2 win which was the first of three games which will determine OFA’s Class B seeding in the Section 10 Tournament.
In other baseball action of the day, Parishville-Hopkinton stayed unbeaten atop the NAC East Division with a 1-0 win over Tupper Lake, St. Lawrence Central shaded Madrid-Waddington 4-3 and Lisbon gained its second NAC West win in a 12-4 victory over Clifton-Fine.
OFA 6 – Gouverneur 2: Blake Ashley scattered five hits as the Blue Devils evened their division record at 3-3 and stayed in contention for a top two Class B seed.
“Blake Ashley pitched well and we played good defense,” said OFA Coach Brooks Brenno.
Ashley also doubled in a winning offense which included a double and a single by Maddox Brenno, a single and a sacrifice fly by Evan Nelson and singles by Adam Rose and Connor Small.
Haydin Stowell doubled and singled for Gouverneur and James Fishel, Tristan Chartrand, Evan Shampine and Conner Sleemen all singled.
Lisbon 12 – C-F 4: Kayleb King delivered a double and three singles, Gabe Smith doubled and Blake Woods doubled twice to back a strong pitching effort from Walker Erickson. Sweeney singled twice, Murphy Moran doubled and Khane Cameron and Will Pirie added singles.
Carr, Arquette and Hubbard all singled twice for C-F.
P-H 1 – TL 0: Gage Caskinette stuck out 17 and limited the Lumberjacks to one hit, a single by Evan Barkley in the sixth inning.
Charlie Clark-Vallance singled twice and scored the only run of the game on a passed ball in the first inning.
SLC 4 – M-W 3 (8 inn): Liam Franks singled and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ab Snell picked up the winning in relief aided by singles from Corban Flynn and Noelle Holmes.
Logan Kington struck out 11 for M-W and Kolby Todd singled twice. Todd singled twice for M-W and Kingston and Gavin Niles singled.
