Tennessee baseball vs Oklahoma Game 2 live updates, game delayed in 7th inning

Tennessee baseball was leading Oklahoma, 5-3, in the seventh inning of Game 2 of its last SEC series when the game was suspended to May 16 due to inclement weather.

The game will resume at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. ET, with the third game of the series to begin approximately 45 minutes after Game 2 concludes.

The Vols (36-18, 14-14 SEC) are aiming to clinch the series after beating the Sooners (31-10, 13-15), 9-7, on May 14. Tennessee gave up 10 more hits than it generated, but timely offense — notably two-run home runs by Levi Clark and Henry Ford in the fifth and sixth innings — was enough to start the weekend set with a victory.

“I think gritty is a great word,” Tennessee coach Josh Elander said after the win. “I loved the way they competed. Got punched in the mouth right out of the gate, and a good job by our offense by staying in it and stacking a couple good innings back-to-back.”

A win in Game 2 would give Tennessee its first back-to-back SEC series wins this season.

Tennessee vs. Oklahoma Game 2 live updates

The game has been officially suspended and will resume on May 16 at 2 p.m. ET. The third game of the series, originally scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on May 16, will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

At 8:48 CT, the game entered a lightning delay after a strike came within eight miles of the ballpark. Tennessee was leading 5-3 in the seventh inning when play was stopped.

Evan Blanco faced his most trouble since the first inning when Oklahoma loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. With his 99th pitch of the night, he induced a groundout to third to escape the jam unscathed and keep Tennessee up 5-3.

With Blake Grimmer on first, Henry Ford sharply hit a ground ball to third that got through the legs of Camden Johnson and rolled around in left field long enough for Grimmer to score. The play was ruled an error.

It’s 5-3 Tennessee in the top of the fifth.

Trent Grindlinger hit a two-RBI single to right field with two outs in the top of the third, scoring Jay Abernathy and Blake Grimmer to put Tennessee up 4-3. The Vols have scored four straight runs after going down 3-0 for the second straight night.

Blaine Brown gave Tennessee its first hit by leading off the third inning with an infield single, and Manny Marin drove him in by finding the left-center field gap and racing to third for an RBI triple. Jay Abernathy scored Marin with an infield single of his own, cutting Oklahoma’s lead to 3-2.

The Sooners started fast to take an early lead for the second straight game. After a leadoff walk by Jason Walk, Camden Johnson hit a two-run home run to center field.

Evan Blanco eventually got out of the first inning, but not before Oklahoma added another run when Trey Gambill grounded into a double play and brought a runner home from third. Oklahoma leads 3-0.
