Abbas Miski has been out of action since the 2025 Super League Grand Final due to injury.
Wigan head coach Matt Peet has revealed that Abbas Miski will not play first-team for the Warriors in 2026 due to salary cap restrictions, despite the winger being ready to return from injury this weekend.
The 30-year-old will play against Leigh Leopards in the reserves competition on Saturday, marking his first appearance since last year’s Super League Grand Final defeat to Hull KR at Old Trafford.
Miski has been sidelined with a torn hamstring ever since, while academy product Zach Eckersley was promoted to the starting number two shirt ahead of the 2026 campaign.
The Lebanon international’s long road to recovery reaches an important milestone this weekend – but the remainder of his 2026 season now looks set to be spent away from Wigan on loan after returning to full match fitness.
“He’ll play tomorrow – but the fact is, he won’t play first-team for Wigan this year,” Peet confirmed.
“We decided some time ago not to use him on our salary cap and allocate funds elsewhere.
“The plan for Abbas is to play in the reserves, and then loan him out in the coming weeks.
“It’s been about recovering from that injury – a torn hamstring. He’s trained hard, and it’s about getting back playing and enjoying his rugby.
“He was very brave for us at the back end of last season, and he has trained really hard and got himself in great shape.”
As it currently stands, Miski is contracted at the Brick Community Stadium until the end of 2027.
