Forecast First Alert: Strong storms, hail possible in Minnesota on Sunday and Monday

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued a Forecast First Alert for Sunday evening through Monday.
Several rounds of storms are expected late this weekend and into early next week. Some of those could become severe.
Minnesota’s Weather Authority will continue to monitor these systems and will share updates as they move closer.
Timing
The main concern for severe weather starts after 7 p.m. Sunday and continues overnight into Monday.
The next round is looking likely to arrive Monday afternoon, but the intensity could be impacted by Sunday’s wave.
Full Forecast from Minnesota’s Weather Authority
Location
The Storm Prediction Center currently has central and southern Minnesota, plus western Wisconsin, under a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) for severe weather and an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5) in southwest Minnesota on Sunday evening and night.
On Monday, that Enhanced Risk could grow to include more of the Twin Cities metro area. Again, though, that will likely be influenced by Sunday’s storms and could change.
Threats
The biggest threats for Sunday and Monday are:
- Large hail
- Damaging straight-line winds
- Heavy rainfall
- Isolated tornadoes
