Bella Hadid Has Touched Down in Cannes

She may have skipped the Met Gala, but nothing was going to keep Bella Hadid from the Cannes Film Festival — the ultraprestigious week of film premieres and the site of many of her most memorable looks: Think hip-high slits, priceless diamonds, and custom Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier gowns. On Friday, she was photographed arriving in the south of France in a baby-blue Prada top-and-shorts set. She was accompanied by her brother, Anwar, who very kindly seemed to be carrying all the bags for his big sis.
The model has been a regular at the film festival since 2015, smoking on balconies and wowing the internet with nearly naked dresses by Saint Laurent and Schiaparelli. But last year, the Cannes Festival announced a new dress code banning nudity and “voluminous” outfits with long trains that might “hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests.” If that sounds annoyingly specific, consider that for years, the festival required women to wear high heels. While sneakers are still not allowed, “elegant shoes and sandals with or without a heel” are now fair game.

Clearly, the new dress-code rules haven’t dampened Hadid’s love of the annual festival. (And she did arrive in sneakers, which she will presumably not be bringing to the red carpet.) “Nine years of my favorite week,” she wrote on Instagram shortly after touching down, with a slideshow of many of her past appearances. Will she stretch the bounds of what might be considered nudity on the red carpet this year? We’ll be standing by.
