What Did the Best Buy Leak Actually Say?
There’s been a ton of leaks, but the yellow-and-black themed retailer is by far the most respected source to drop major information on the game.
A Best Buy affiliate email titled “GTA 6 Pre Order (Physical Game)” surfaced this week showing a promotional window running May 18 through May 21, 2026 with a 5% affiliate commission rate.
The email first appeared on a YouTuber Frogboyx1Gaming livestream, then spread across ResetEra, GTAForums and Reddit as multiple affiliates confirmed receiving identical messages.
Insider Gaming independently verified the email’s authenticity by having two separate affiliates forward it directly. It’s 2026, so you have to be sure before running away with any piece of news on a viral title like GTA 6.
The communications originate from Impact, one of the largest affiliate partner marketplaces in the industry. Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed any preorder timing or pricing on Newswire — but the leak is now solid enough that Take-Two’s stock jumped roughly 5% on Thursday alone.
That’s pretty significant and just a hint of the upcoming impact of the GTA 6 release.
When Will GTA 6 Preorders Actually Go Live?
After examining the leak with a fine-tooth comb, the cleanest read on the Best Buy window is that May 18 is the start date for public preorders, with the May 21 endpoint marking the close of the bonus affiliate commission window, but not the end of the preorder period itself. Preorders would presumably run through the November 19 launch.
This all feels more plausible given it lines up
Take-Two’s May 21 earnings call for Q4 and full fiscal year 2025. Opening preorders just before an earnings call makes sense considering we’re all expecting staggering pre-order numbers the moment they’re official.
This would also align with what happened with GTA v and Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s also logical to expect that long-awaited third trailer to drop as the kick-off for the pre-orders.
Trailer 3 hasn’t been officially dated, but the pattern math points hard at the same May 18-21 window. GTA V Trailer 3 dropped roughly 15 days before a May earnings call, and Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer 3 dropped 14 days before its corresponding call — both with preorders going live in the same beat.
If the Best Buy email is correct, Trailer 3 dropping Monday alongside preorders going live would close the loop on the entire pattern.
Translation: Monday could break the internet.

How Much Will GTA 6 Cost at Launch?
There is no official MSRP from Rockstar yet, but the signals are converging hard on roughly $69.99 in the U.S. — standard AAA pricing. A UK retail worker leak reported an internal £69.99 price, which maps cleanly to that same number, and the Best Buy email itself doesn’t include MSRP data.
I’d be shocked if the title checks in more expensive than $79.99. Based on the information that is floating about, anything above $80 at launch would now count as a real surprise.
The next few days are the most important window GTA 6 has had since the May 12 trailer rumor died quietly two days ago.
