Rousey vs. Carano fight night weights: One fighter gained over 27 pounds after weigh-ins

Ronda Rousey only gained a single pound between her weigh-in on Friday and running through Gina Carano in just 17 seconds in their fight on Saturday at the first MVP MMA event.
On Monday, the California State Athletic Commission revealed the fight night weights to MMA Fighting for the card as part of the commission’s attempt to curb extreme weight cutting in combat sports.
In the main event, Rousey weighed 142 pounds during her official weigh-in and then fought at 143 pounds for the featherweight contest. The weight didn’t seem to matter much because she took Carano down in the opening exchange and snatched her signature armbar to end the fight in the first round.
As for Carano, she weighed 141.4 pounds on Friday and gained 10.6 pounds overnight so she ultimately hit 152 pounds for the fight on Saturday. Of course, Carano revealed in the days leading up to the fight that she actually lost 100 pounds to get in fighting shape again after her last MMA bout happened all the way back in 2009.
In the co-main event, Nate Diaz was actually bigger than Mike Perry by the time they got in the cage together.
Diaz hit the scale on Friday at 168.6 pounds and then he gained 16 pounds to ultimately weigh 184.6 pounds for the fight against Perry. Meanwhile, Perry tipped the scale at 169.5 pounds and then gained 11.8 pounds to weigh 181.4 pounds for the fight.
Perry dominated the action across two rounds before the fight was stopped due to cuts sustained by Diaz on his face and head, which caused excessing bleeding.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou maintained his sizable advantage over Philipe Lins after he weighed 257 pounds for their main card bout before gaining just 1.6 pounds overnight. Ngannou ultimately weighed 258.6 pounds while Lins was at 221 pounds after gaining just 0.4 pounds between Friday and Saturday.
The biggest weight jump on the entire card came from the featured prelim as Namo Fazil went from 170.8 on the scale to a whopping 198 pounds on fight night. That means Fazil gamed 27.2 pounds — a 16% increase — and he outweighed Jake Babian by over 10 pounds after he weighed 186.8 pounds on fight night.
