Taylor Kinney among 5 Chicago Fire, Med, and PD stars to ink new deals for 2026 seasons

One Chicago fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the futures of five franchise stars have been confirmed with NBC inking new deals with several stars, including four of the franchise’s remaining stars!
Let’s start with Chicago Fire. While the futures of many stars from the original One Chicago show remain up in the air after the season-ending fire that put the lives of nearly every member of Firehouse 51 in limbo, there are two longtime cast members fans don’t need to worry about during the summer. Both Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo have signed on to return for Chicago Fire season 15, according to Deadline.
This assures that Stellaride will keep going strong for another season and that both Kidd and Severide will survive the events of the season 14 finale. Kinney has, of course, been a part of the show since the very beginning, having appeared in every season of Chicago Fire, while Mayo joined the cast in season 4.
Also confirmed to be returning for the 2026-27 season is Jason Beghe, who will be back in action as Hank Voight when Chicago PD season 14 rolls around this fall. Beghe has led the cast of NBC’s crime drama since its launch in 2014; however, his time in the franchise started in the first season of Chicago Fire with Voight recurring as an antagonist to Jesse Spencer’s character, Matt Casey.
Beghe would then be brought on to lead the cast of Chicago PD when the spinoff was announced and appeared in several Chicago Fire season 2 episodes ahead of PD’s launch.
Last, but certainly not least, Deadline has confirmed that S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt have both signed on to return for Chicago Med season 12. The news also means that Chicago Med fans won’t have to worry about losing either of the show’s sole remaining original cast members, with Charles and Goodwin both set to return next season.
The news of Merkerson’s return is particularly exciting and helps to ease the worries some fans have had about Goodwin exiting the show after the events of the season 11 finale. Now that Merkerson has signed on to return, we know that while Goodwin might have to fight to save her job, she’s not going anywhere!
It’s certainly a relief to know that Kinney, Mayo, Beghe, Merkerson, and Platt will all be back next season, and our attention will now shift to those whose statuses on Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD remain unclear. Hopefully in the months to come, the status of additional members of the One Chicago shows’ casts will be confirmed.
With filming on the new seasons slated to begin in late July, we should get some answers around that time as the stars begin to return to set. Hopefully, following a year that brought many cast shakeups, we won’t see too many departures (or any) heading into Chicago Fire season 15, Chicago Med season 12, and Chicago PD season 14!
