Four Arsenal summer transfer sale candidates become clear after Burnley win

Arsenal are on the cusp of Premier League and Champions League glory but they are still expected to make changes to their squad in the summer transfer window

Arsenal are set to make changes to Mikel Arteta’s squad in the summer transfer window

Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke has made it clear the Gunners will not stand still this summer, even if they go down in the history books as Double winners.

Mikel Arteta’s men are now on the cusp of Premier League and Champions League glory but there’s a sense the first major trophy of this era could lead to a potential dynasty.

Arsenal are expected to make changes to their squad at end of the campaign when the summer transfer window opens in a bid to keep things fresh.

Already, there are a number of candidates to depart, though it goes without saying the Gunners are currently focused on ending the season with silverware.

Defensive midfielder Christian Norgaard did not even make the squad against Burnley and is likely to depart the Emirates Stadium after just one season in north London.

He arrived from Brentford in a deal worth up to £12million including bonuses but has only made six top-flight appearances to date.

Norgaard has regularly been left out of matchday squads and looks certain to move on in the coming months as he just isn’t fancied by Arteta despite his value around the training ground.

Striker Gabriel Jesus has also been an unused substitute in eight of the past 12 Premier League matches and did not make the squad against West Ham.

He’ll have just one year left to run on his contract this summer and seems almost certain to quit the Gunners amid interest from both Europe and Brazil.

Jesus has already been offered to the likes of AC Milan and former club Palmeiras via intermediaries but he’ll take his time to decide his next move after also missing out on Brazil’s World Cup squad.

While Gabriel Martinelli made Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man roster, it’s been another stop-start season for him at Arsenal.

He’s made 51 appearances in all competitions and scored 11 goals but he just hasn’t seemed to improve and show clear signs of fulfilling his potential.

Martinelli has struggled to displace an ageing Trossard in Arsenal’s starting XI and if he was to depart, a sale would still generate substantial cash for the club, which is why it might appeal.

The jet-heeled 24-year-old’s contract runs until 2027, but Arsenal also have a 12-month extension option they can trigger to protect his value.

Myles Lewis-Skelly had looked likely to depart when he was out of the side but he’s provided a timely reminder of his quality after forcing his way back into Arteta’s line-up.

He was benched against Burnley but looks set for a big future in midfield, his preferred position, following his recent upturn in form.

Unfortunately, Ethan Nwaneri could be headed for the exit door following a tough six-month loan with Marseille.

The emergence of Max Dowman means he’s effectively been replaced and given Nwaneri would represent 100 per cent profit against Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, he may be sold as Arteta is unable to provide him with assurances of playing time.
