Rangers Set to Open Silver Boot Series Against Astros

There’s nothing like a Silver Boot Series matchup, and on Friday night, the Texas Rangers will welcome the in-state rival Houston Astros for their final series at Globe Life Field this season.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m, but there are lots of happenings at the ballpark before then.

When gates open at 5 p.m., the first 10,000 fans inside will receive a Rangers Hawaiian Shirt presented by Baker Brothers.

Former Rangers infielder Mark McLemore will be on hand to sign autographs for the first 225 fans in line at the New Era Alumni Alley stand located on the Upper Concourse behind Section 223 beginning at 5:15 p.m.

From WWE, professional wrestler Penta will throw out a first pitch, as well as music group K-Paz De La Sierra, who will take place in the Viva Tejas post-game concert series inside Arlington Backyard at Texas Live. Fans must have a valid Rangers game ticket for the same date as the concert to attend.

Also before the game, the 2023 World Series trophy will be on display and available for photo opportunities behind section 117.

Those not planning on heading out to the Globe can catch all the action on CW33 as part of their package of select Friday night Rangers broadcasts. On the radio side of things, 105.3 The Fan will have the coverage.

Once the action on the field gets underway, the Rangers will use two pitchers to get them through a bulk of the game as both Cal Quantrill and Kumar Rocker will take the mound, according to Skip Schumaker.

Quantrill will get the start, his fourth of the season, before giving way to Rocker later in the game.

Coming into play, Quantrill is 3-1 with a 3.35 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts in 40.1 innings.

Rocker, who has performed well when pitching behind an opener, is 2-7 with a 3.95 ERA on the year.

Texas hitters will have the difficult task of facing Astros ace Hunter Brown, who will make just his seventh start of the season. Brown is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA.

After Thursday night’s walk-off win, the Rangers regained sole possession of first place in the American League West despite having a record of just 47-46. With a win on Friday, the Rangers would push two games above .500 for the second time this week.
