Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) on Tuesday lost his primary to a challenger backed by President Donald Trump, the latest casualty in Trump’s efforts to exile his critics from the GOP.
Ed Gallrein, a farmer and former Navy SEAL recruited by Trump, beat Massie in the most expensive U.S. House primary on record, the Associated Press projects. The race drew more than $32 million in ad spending. Trump allies and pro-Israel groups long opposed to Massie invested heavily, testing the president’s grip on the Republican base.
