1 dead, 1 hospitalized after reported shooting in Dauphin County, locals react

One person died and another person has been hospitalized in a shooting in Jefferson Township on Thursday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 2:15 p.m. in the 90 block of Carsonville Road, according to county dispatch.

Dispatch said the coroner was still at the scene as of about 5 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Megan Frazer confirmed that state police were “handling” the incident, but said there’s no threat to the public.

Frazer said more information will be released later Thursday night.

CBS 21 spoke with locals in the area.

One woman, Holly, who had been friends with the victims for ten years said she’s struggling to process what happened.

“I was completely in shock I did not want to believe it, these are friends of me and my husband— I was devastated,” Holly said.

Holly said she was at home when she got the call and immediately contacts close friends to confirm if what she heard was true.

With the exception of the Carsonville Hotel, the area surrounding the scene is relatively remote.

Landon Klinger is a local EMS worker and responded to the call. He said it was a hard scene to handle.

“It was just kind of one of those calls where it’s just like— it’s just rough, you know, to hear about it,” Klinger said. “This is my first time dealing with something that bad.”

People who lived and grew up in the area said this type of crime is rare.

“In the seven years I’ve lived here I’ve never heard of anything like this happening in the community. We are all in shock, like in disbelief,” Holly said.
