Spiderman hilariously ruins J.K. Simmons trip to Mets’ Citi Field

The New York Mets are facing the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of three at Citi Field on Tuesday night. While celebrity row has been the focus at the New York Knicks games recently, there was an Oscar winner in Queens on Tuesday. JK Simmons caught the Mets game, but Spiderman had some other ideas.
Simmons won an Oscar for his role in 2014’s Whiplash, but he may be best known among young movie fans for his role in Spider-Man. He plays J. Jonah Jamison in the Tobey Maguire trilogy, urging Peter Parker to “Get me pictures of Spiderman!” It does not look like Simmons got a picture of him, but Spidey was holding a copy of the Daily Bugle.
Simmons wasn’t even the only celebrity at the game on Tuesday night. Bill Fagerbakke, the voice of Patrick Star on SpongeBob SquarePants, threw out the first pitch and read the starting lineup.
Simmons is a known baseball fan, often seen representing his hometown Detroit Tigers. He even played the Tigers manager in For the Love of the Game, starring Kevin Costner. In that film, Costner’s character throws a perfect game for the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. There won’t be a perfect game on Tuesday night, but Simmons is still out there supporting.
The Mets are off to a dreadful start to the season, holding a 22-32 record coming into Tuesday’s game. They were blown out by the Reds in Game 1 and are riding a four-game losing streak. They’ll try to get the win in front of Simmons, as they don’t want his Whiplash character to come into the clubhouse.
