Luca Van Assche won his second ever match at Roland Garros as he defeated Vilius Gaubas in four sets. The Frenchman was in control of the first two sets, but his level dropped in the third. He failed to serve out the match at 5-4 in the fourth, but he was able to do so at the second attempt after breaking in the very next service game. He won 6-4 6-2 2-6 7-5.
He now takes on Brandon Nakashima. The American comfortably got past Roberto Bautista Agut in his first-round encounter. Bautista Agut was competing in his final ever French Open, but he was on the backfoot from the start as Nakashima won 6-2 7-5 6-2.
This is a match that Nakashima will be expected to win, and if he replicates his performance level from round one, he should be able to make it through to the third-round in Paris for the second time in his career.
