Rain, thunderstorms and powerful winds sweep Montreal before summer-like warmup

Residents are in for a turbulent stretch of weather today as rain, thunderstorms and strong winds move across the region before calmer and warmer conditions settle in for the start of June.
Environment forecasts call for mainly cloudy skies today, with rain beginning this morning and a risk of thunderstorms developing this afternoon. Conditions are expected to remain unsettled tonight as rain continues into the evening before tapering off before morning. Another risk of thunderstorms remains in place, with total rainfall amounts between 10 and 20 millimetres possible. Winds are forecast to intensify significantly overnight, with northeast winds increasing from 30 km/h gusting to 50, to as high as 50 km/h gusting to 80 late in the evening before easing slightly overnight. The overnight low will dip to 7 C.
The weekend forecast improves considerably by Saturday, bringing mainly sunny skies and a high of 19 C. Gusty northeast winds of 30 km/h, with gusts up to 50, are expected to continue through the day. Saturday night will remain clear with a low of 11 C.

A much more stable weather pattern is expected to develop next week. Monday is forecast to be sunny with a high of 20 C, followed by clear skies overnight and a low of 10 C. Sunshine is expected to continue Tuesday with temperatures climbing to 23 C, while cloudy periods move in overnight.
By midweek, temperatures are expected to rise even further.
