‘Chicago Fire’: Miranda Rae Mayo Warns ‘Nobody’s Safe’ After Shocking Cliffhanger (Exclusive)

What To Know

  • The Season 14 finale of Chicago Fire ended with a shocking cliffhanger that left almost of 51 in serious danger.
  • Miranda Rae Mayo, who plays Stella Kidd, addresses the cliffhanger and teases what’s next.

Chicago Fire hasn’t shied away from killing off characters in the past — it does, after all, follow characters in a very dangerous job — and the Season 14 finale ended in such a way that we’re very worried about almost everyone in firehouse 51 after they responded to a structure fire.

“I know nothing about the resolution,” Miranda Rae Mayo, whose Lieutenant Stella Kidd was with the rest of Truck on the ladder when a fireball erupted from inside, tells TV Insider while sitting down at ATX Festival this week. She does point out that she knows she and Taylor Kinney, who plays her character’s husband, Kelly Severide, will be back, thanks to news about their contracts just before the finale.

She continues, “I actually saw the finale, the last moments in ADR and I wish I had my phone. I would show you my reaction. It’s hilarious. It’s just like us screaming because it’s a huge stunt. We’re just engulfed in fire. I mean, huge shout out to Rick LeFevour, Sr. and Jr. Junior was on the ladder. These are the stunt people. Shawnah [Donley]. Everybody. It was an incredible stunt. The entire crew, we shot it the last day of filming, and I think I was actually wrapped and I came back to see the stunt.”

The finale kept flashing back from the aforementioned fire, which had all of 51 responding, including their former battalion chief, Pascal (Dermot Mulroney), though he wasn’t on the clock. He and paramedics Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) were the only ones outside and safe when everything went wrong. The three of them could only listen to the Mayday call as Squad and Engine found the fire inside and became trapped and Truck ran into danger on the ladder on their way down.

As for who Rayo’s most worried about, she names Herrmann (David Eigenberg), Ballard (Leroy Williams III), and Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente). Chicago Med‘s Sarah Ramos, sitting next to her, names Rayo’s Kidd, adding, “Thank god you’re coming back.”

“Everyone is in danger,” Rayo admits. “Nobody’s safe really.”

After all, she goes on to point out, characters could be injured and unable to return to work. That would shake things up at 51, too. “Maybe we’ll still be on the show, but who knows if we’ll still be on shift,” she suggests.
