Arrest warrant recalled for former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin in family court case | Local News

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — An arrest warrant for former Gov. Matt Bevin was recalled after it was issued when he failed to appear in court Friday.
Bevin was supposed to appear in court in person in the ongoing legal fight with his ex-wife, Glenna Bevin, and their adopted son, Jonah Bevin, who is seeking financial and educational support.
According to court documents, Judge Angela Johnson issued the arrest warrant after Matt Bevin failed to show up to the 4 p.m. court hearing. A Jefferson County Circuit Court administrator told WAVE Matt Bevin appeared via Zoom instead of in person, stating he had property damage in Maine that he had to deal with.
The judge held him in contempt, ordering Matt Bevin to serve 14 days in jail or pay a $250 fine.
Court documents show the fine was paid and the bench warrant was recalled.
Matt Bevin’s attorney, Jesse Mudd issued this statement:
“The fact remains, that Jonah, while an adult able to make his own decisions in life, is still Matt and Glenna’s son and they will always continue to love and provide for him as they do for all their children. Former Governor Bevin has gone above and beyond to produce financial records and private information that is not expected of any other litigant in a child support action in Kentucky. Unfortunately, like prior hearings in this case, today’s hearing turned into political theater instead of focusing on moving the case forward to resolution.”
This is the second time Matt Bevin has been in contempt of court in this case.
In March, Matt Bevin was issued a warrant and sentenced to 60 days in jail after a judge found him in contempt of court for failing to disclose financial information.
Court of Appeals Judge Audra J. Eckerle dismissed the warrant because Matt Bevin requested that Johnson be disqualified from the case for bias.
Earlier in May, the Court of Appeals ruled Judge Johnson would remain on the case.
Jonah Bevin accused his parents of sending him to an abusive boarding school when he was a teenager. He’s also made accusations of emotional and physical abuse, and obtained an emergency protective order against Matt Bevin.
Last year, a judge granted Jonah Bevin a Motion to Intervene in his parent’s divorce case after Jonah filed an Emergency Protective Order against Matt and Glenna Bevin, claiming he was mistreated and abandoned in Jamaica as a minor.
Bevin is expected back in court Tuesday, July 28.
