Love Island spoiler: Villa drama on night one thanks to new launch twist

You can always rely on the first night of Love Island to come with a twist, and the launch of the 2026 series was no exception. After the new single hopefuls headed into the villa, none other than Maya Jama arrived to invite the Islanders to play an ice-breaker – and then delivered a major twist with two new bombshells who have a very special secret power.

Ok, so we were just getting to grips with the Love Island 2026 cast, when lovely Maya arrived and asked, “The night is still young, so who fancies playing a little party game to kick things off?” She then asked the Islanders a series of questions, making them drink if they could see wifey material around the fire pit, or a man who looked like a red flag.

Then, the Islanders had to choose who to couple up with – without any input from viewers (who have been able to decide in recent seasons.) No games, no interference: just the 12 of them picking each other. “Just remember, you’re all here to find the one, so don’t be shy. You don’t want anyone else to take who you want to be coupled up with” Maya said.

It was all a little bit awkward, and the niceties quickly went out the window. Both Robyn and Lola were into Sean, and then Mica and Jasmine were both into Lorenzo. It was a lot. At the end of the coupling up, the pairings were:

  • Mica and Samraj
  • Jasmine and Lorenzo
  • Aidan and Ellie
  • Angelista and Ope
  • Lola and Sean / Fitzy
  • Sam and Robyn

All smooth sailing, right?

Er, no actually – at the end of the episode, Maya revealed two new bombshell Islanders were going into the villa, and they had a secret mission. 28-year-old George from Winchester and 23-year-old Yasmin from Kent were sent into the villa with a special power: in 24 hours, they can decide to dump two Islanders of their choice, for any reason they like.

Will they dump their biggest competition? Will they decide someone is playing a game? Or does someone just give them the ick? The power is in their hands!

Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm.
