National Grid assistance events coming to Worcester as summer energy costs rise

With air conditioners preparing to hum back to life and electricity bills expected to climb during the summer months, National Grid is bringing a series of customer assistance events to Worcester aimed at helping residents manage energy costs and access available financial assistance programs.

The utility is hosting three upcoming assistance events in Worcester this month, offering customers an opportunity to speak directly with representatives about payment plans, discount programs, budget billing and other resources designed to reduce financial strain.

The events come as many households continue to feel the impact of high utility costs following another cold New England winter.

According to National Grid, customer assistance representatives will provide information on summer energy-saving strategies, budget billing options, payment assistance programs, tiered discount rates and the company’s arrears management program for eligible customers.

The first Worcester event is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Church Community Room, 236 Lincoln St. A second event will be held Friday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at El Buen Samaritano, 39 Piedmont St. National Grid representatives return to Worcester on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centro Inc., 11 Sycamore St.

National Grid said customers can also learn about a Payment Assistance Bundle that combines a deferred payment agreement, automatic monthly payments and budget billing to help customers manage past-due balances and spread energy costs more evenly throughout the year.

“From cooling tips to billing help, our teams are taking a proactive approach to ensure that our customers have the support they need to stay cool and to keep costs down throughout the summer season,” Bill Malee, National Grid’s chief customer officer, said in the announcement.

In addition to financial assistance programs, representatives will provide information on energy-efficiency measures that can help reduce electricity use during the hottest months of the year. National Grid recommends steps such as adjusting thermostats, using fans alongside air conditioning, closing blinds during peak sunlight hours and scheduling home energy assessments.

The company also offers programs that may help eligible customers pay for insulation, air-sealing improvements and energy-saving equipment through Mass Save and other initiatives.

Additional customer assistance events are planned throughout Central Massachusetts, including June 17 at the Uxbridge Senior Center and June 22 at WHEAT Community Connections in Clinton.

National Grid encourages residents to verify event details before attending and to visit its customer assistance website for information about available programs and eligibility requirements.
