Nobody Does Wear Marks Like LPGA Tour Players

With the women’s game defined more by long game precision, the U.S. Women’s Open is a great place to spot some of the best wear marks you’ll ever see.

This week, the Women’s U.S. Open is at Riviera Golf & Country Club for the 81st playing of the event and at Riviera for the very first time. Beyond the great golf, it will be an interesting contrast in playing conditions compared to when the PGA TOUR comes to town in February where it’s set up for a standard Tour event compared to a Major Championship.

What will also make for great watching is the style of play that will be on display by the women compared to when the men teed it up at Riviera. The men’s game is much more arial compared to the lower trajectory game that’s more often utilized by the pros on the LPGA tour. And, longer approach shots also mean longer clubs into greens.

It’s this use of hybrids and fairway woods as precision approach clubs that always makes spotting wear marks at LPGA events some of the most impressive stuff you will ever see, and thanks to our friends at GolfWRX and their Women’s U.S. Open Coverage we’ve compiled some of our favorites here to admire.

Auston Kim wrote an essay for Skratch last season titled “Let’s End The ‘Scratch Golfer vs. LPGA Pro’ Debate Once and For All,” so these wear marks need no introduction. Word to the wise: If you ever run into a player that has a wear mark like this on a hybrid, keep your wallet in your pocket. Rule number one of golf games is NEVER gamble with a golfer with clubs with these kind of battle scars (unless they’re on your team).

It’s takes a lot of practice to put a wear mark like this on a putter face, but Ayaka seems to have been up for the challenge with her TaylorMade Spider.
