EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has just inked an overall deal with five-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker James Mangold, under which the Logan and Ford v. Ferrari filmmaker will develop, direct and produce feature film projects for the Skydance owned studio.
The deal comes in the wake of the new Paramount announcing its first big project under Studio Co-Chairs Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg on day one, that being Mangold’s reteam with Timothée Chalamet, High Side. Paramount won that project in a highly competitive bidding war.

High Side is based on an original and currently unpublished short story by Jaime Oliveira, who is also adapting the screenplay, which follows a former MotoGP racer. Peter Chernin and David Ready are attached to produce on behalf of Chernin Entertainment, alongside Mangold’s Turnpike Films.
Since joining the company Greenstein and Goldberg have wasted no time making their mark, making a series of high-profile deals including a four-year exclusive deal with the Duffer Brothers, a major film deal with Activision to develop, produce and distribute a live-action movie based on the iconic Call of Duty video game franchise; the purchase of R-rated comedy spec script Bald Eagles; and securing Weapons producers JD Lifshitz and Raphel Margules to spearhead a new genre label at the studio.
Mangold ‘s feature directing credits include. Heavy, Cop Land, Girl, Interrupted, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma, as well as the Academy Award Best Adapted Screenplay Nominee Logan, Academy Award Best Picture Nominee Ford v. Ferrari, and Academy Award Best Picture Nominee A Complete Unknown. Mangold recently received a nomination for Best Director on that movie earlier this year. Over his career, Mangold has collaborated with legendary actors such as Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Vanessa Redgrave, Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Russell Crowe, Reese Witherspoon (Oscar winner for Walk the Line), Joaquin Phoenix (Oscar nominee for Walk the Line), Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie (Oscar winner for Girl, Interrupted), Winona Ryder, and Harrison Ford. Mangold is represented by WME, Entertainment 360 and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
