Arlington Native Gearing Up To Compete For World Cup On Home Soil

ARLINGTON, MA — An Arlington native will be representing the United States at the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.
Miles Robinson, a defender for FC Cincinnati, was named to the U.S. Men’s National Team’s 26-player roster for the tournament, which is being held across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The United States opens group play against Paraguay on June 12.
Robinson, 29, grew up in Arlington before going on to play collegiately at Syracuse University. Atlanta United selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
The defender has made 38 appearances for the U.S. national team since his debut in 2019. He was a member of the squad that won the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup and scored the winning goal against Mexico in the tournament final.
Robinson was expected to be a candidate for the United States’ 2022 World Cup roster before suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon while playing for Atlanta United in May 2022. The injury sidelined him for the tournament in Qatar.
After returning from injury, Robinson joined FC Cincinnati ahead of the 2024 season and worked his way back into the national team picture. His selection to the 2026 roster will give him his first opportunity to play in a World Cup.
The United States will play its group-stage matches against Paraguay, Australia and Türkiye as it looks to advance to the knockout rounds on home soil.
For Arlington soccer fans, Robinson’s selection places a hometown player on the roster for the first men’s World Cup hosted in the United States since 1994.
