World Cup 2026 England right back Tino Livramento’s life from Croydon upbringing to Newcastle success

England’s World Cup squad boasts 10 London-born players, including popular names such as Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

Promising right back Tino Livramento is also from London. Hailing from Croydon, South London, Livramento began his footballing career at Chelsea. He went to Woodcote High School in Purley and started his playing days at Roundshaw and District Colts FC before joining Chelsea’s academy.

His dad is Portuguese, and his mum is Scottish, meaning he was eligible to play for both those countries. Instead, Livramento chose to play for the country of his birth and is now gearing up for his first international tournament.

He made his way into the Chelsea first team but never made an appearance before contract talks with the club he supported growing up broke down. After failing to reach an agreement, the youngster signed for Southampton in 2021. He spent two years there, where he also tore his ACL.

After spending two years at Southampton, the right-back was bought by Newcastle for £32m. It was there that he established himself as a top-class right back in the league.

The full-back had featured for the Young Lions’ under-15s, under-16s, under-17s, under-18s, under-19s and under-21s before his first Three Lions selection in August 2024. He got his first international call-up to the England senior squad in 2024 before making his debut on November 17 against the Republic of Ireland.

After a good season for Newcastle, he will be hoping to make his mark at his first international tournament while competing with the likes of fellow Londoners Reece James and Djed Spence for a starting spot.

He was named in Tomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. His former school, Woodcote, posted a congratulatory message: ‘We are celebrating a proud moment for our school community after former student Tino Livramento was named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‘Tino’s selection marks a significant milestone in his football career and is a tremendous achievement that fills us with pride. Having once walked the corridors of WHS, he will now have the opportunity to represent England on football’s biggest stage.’
