Persona 6 is real, coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, but that’s about all we know

At this evening’s Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, Atlus finally lifted the lid on Persona 6.
A follow-up to 2016’s Persona 5 (yes, it’s really been 10 years) the next entry in the celebrated role-playing game franchise will launch on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. No release date, or any significant information, really, was revealed as part of the initial trailer.
This follow’s a difficult week for Sega and Atlus, who have been scrambling to keep on top of leaks pertaining to the game’s characters. Prior to the show going live, concept art featuring “a blond male character, and a female character with black and red hair” started cropping up on the internet, before – as IGN reports – Sega began issuing takedown notices to sites hosting the files. Earlier this year, we saw Atlus make a 30th anniversary site for the series live, teasing more announcements for 2026. And here we are!

“An entirely new story is about to unfold,” reads a trailer blurb. “The highly anticipated next chapter of the iconic RPG series delivers a bold, new standalone story blending heartfelt daily life and new characters with pulse-pounding, supernatural adventure. Whether it’s your first Persona game or you’ve been here since the beginning, this one’s for you.”
Up until now, we haven’t heard much – at all – about Persona 6. In fact, the only whispers about the game came from infamous leakers and insiders like Nate the Hate and Midori, who previously suggested the next instalment of Atlus’ fan-favourite RPG series will be coming to more platforms than simply PlayStation consoles (so, more in line with Metaphor Refantazio than Persona 5; but that’s no suprise really, since Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor both saw big marketing pushes across multiple platforms).
Other than that, we know that Katsura Hashino, director of Metaphor: ReFantazio and the Persona games at Atlus, wants to create “JRPG 3.0” as the next evolutionary step of the genre. What exactly does that mean? Well, per Hashino himself “there will be a greater dimension to these games and they’ll change the genre’s structure and presentation at a fundamental level”. Is that what we can expect from Persona 6? Time will tell.
In case you’ve forgotten, a remake of Persona 4 is currently in development, too. That got a release date of February 2027 this evening.
