Hoyt Richards Biopic Starring Nicholas Galitzine To Be Directed By Gus Van Sant

Nicholas Galitzine (Masters of the Universe) is set to play supermodel Hoyt Richards in a new film that Gus Van Sant is in talks to direct, Deadline can confirm.

Details as to the feature take on Richards’ story are being kept under wraps. No word yet on other creative attachments to the as-yet-untitled project.

A major figure in the fashion world of the late ’80s and early ’90s, Richards was considered to be one of the first modern male supermodels, if not the first. He’s known for his work with top brands — including Versace, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Cartier, and Donna Karan — and alongside other fashion icons like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. His story is currently back in the headlines by way of Bring Me the Beauties, an HBO docuseries examining his time within the cult Eternal Values, led by Frederick von Mierers.

Galitzine plays He-Man in Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe film, and is also currently in theaters with their film The Sheep Detectives, where he stars alongside Hugh Jackman. Breaking out with the rom-coms The Idea of You and Red, White and Royal Blue — both also for Amazon — he’ll be seen coming up in a sequel to the latter, titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, as well as Peter Berg’s Netflix WWII pic The Mosquito Bowl.

Two-time Oscar nominee Van Sant is coming off of Dead Man’s Wire, his crime thriller starring Bill Skarsgård, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
