‘Fate of the Old Republic’ Hires ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Writer as Narrative Director

As the stacked creative team on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic continues to come together, it has been learned that writer Tony Elias of Cyberpunk 2077 fame has been hired at game developer Arcanaut Studios as Narrative Director.

On Tony Elias’s LinkedIn profile (hat tip FRVR), he revealed that he was now under the employ of Arcanaut Studios as Narrative Director for Fate of the Old Republic, the studio’s inaugural project. This is what he had to say about his hiring:

“Happy to share that I’ve joined Arcanaut Studios as Narrative Director! I’ll be working with Casey Hudson and a wonderful team of new and familiar faces on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic — the spiritual successor to KOTOR.”

The article also makes the claim that The Divide series author Jenny ‘J.S’ Dewes has been hired as a writer for Fate of the Old Republic.

Also interesting to note is Elias’s other credits. Released games that Elias has written for include Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. Elias also wrote for the Wonder Woman video game that was announced in 2021 but ultimately cancelled in 2025, and is credited as a writer for the second game in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk series, which has been in development for a year and a half.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is currently in development for PC and the current generation of consoles. Details on the new title are scarce, but it appears that the game is built around the player’s choice to follow a path of light or to follow a path of darkness, much like its spiritual predecessor, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. No release date for Fate of the Old Republic has been set as of yet, but Hudson has indicated that we thankfully won’t have to wait all the way until 2030 to play the game.
