Kansas City businesses ready for Chappell Roan weekend

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City metro is preparing for the ‘Midwest Princess’ Chappell Roan ahead of her concerts Friday and Saturday on the southeast lawn at the National World War I Museum and Memorial. There will be plenty to do for local fans, as well as those traveling into town.

The official Chappell Roan ‘fandemonium’ took to Instagram to highlight official events, multiple LGBTQ+ and women-owned businesses and attractions, and local drag shows.

The official pre-party is set for Thursday night at Switchback at Incline on 9th in the West Bottoms. The outdoor event is 18+. Doors open at 7 p.m.

One of the businesses highlighted by the official fan page is Q Kansas City in Westport.

“Having Chappell Roan coming to Kansas City is like having royalty visit for the queer community,” said co-owner Lance Pierce. “I mean, she is our Midwest princess. We’re super excited to have her and our out-of-town guests. We want to give them a proper Kansas City welcome here.”

A pre-party is set for Thursday at 9 p.m., where you can expect back-to-back Chappell songs.

“If you came by yourself, you can find a crew and group of people to go to the concert with,” said Pierce. “Then on Friday, the Glitterati from 11 to 1:30 will be hitting the stage with a lot of different Chappell Roan drag numbers, of course, and then we’ll have a costume contest for a $500 prize.”

After Saturday’s concert, Q Kansas City will be hosting a Pink Pony Rodeo hosted by Q, a Kansas-native drag queen featured on season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. A full list of events is online, where those looking to attend can also RSVP.

“I’m super excited to welcome all the out-of-towners,” said Pierce. “We are going to do everything we can to make sure they feel welcome, included, and they feel like they showed up to the right place.”

You can dance under the blacklights and the mirrored disco balls, and eat them too! Several businesses are selling Pink Pony Club-themed cookies and cakes, like Cookie Bliss KC in the Northland.

“We announced we would have them on Monday,” said owner and founder Karissa Todd. “Last night orders started flooding in. Today was the first day we had them available for walk-ins, and we’re sold out.”

Todd says they’ll be restocking every day throughout the weekend for walk-in customers and those looking for a ‘Sugar High’ can also pre-order cookies to pick up or be delivered.

“We’ve got a couple hotel deliveries that we’re going to be doing on Friday for people that have a group coming in for the concert for a special treat for them to have,” said Todd. “It’s fun to see the city so excited about supporting Chappell Roan. Being a Missouri-native, it’s a lot of fun to have her here. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Visit KC has compiled a Chappell Roan-inspired guide to Kansas City as well. Both shows are sold out; fans going can find information on bag policies and a venue map online.
