Who is Samuel Moutoussamy, Indian-origin player in DR Congo squad vs Portugal at FIFA World Cup 2026?

Midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy was named in DR Congo’s starting line-up for its FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Portugal at the Houston Stadium in Houston, Texas on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder currently plays for Atromitos in Greece. After coming up through the ranks at Olympique Lyon, he had spells at Nantes, Eredivisie side Fortuna Sittard and Turkey Super Lig side Sivasspor.

Motoussamy has Tamil roots. While his mother is Congolese, his father is of Indo-Guadeloupean of Tamil origin. The 29-year-old defensive midfielder, who was born in Paris, has made his debut for Congo in 2019.

The midfielder has been capped 59 times for his country and was part of the national team squad at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2024.
