Prince George Will Be Following Dad’s Footsteps by Going to Eton

After much speculation, the oldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, Prince George, will be attending the prestigious Eton College from September onwards. However, this may not sit too well with Middleton.

The announcement was confirmed this morning. “Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September,” a spokesperson told People. The news, however, is far from a surprise, given it’s the college both William and his brother, Prince Harry, attended when they were younger. “All roads lead to Eton,” a source told People of the decision.

That being said, it did seem like Middleton was doing her best to broaden George’s horizons when it came to picking a school. Prior to the confirmation, there was plenty of speculation whether George, who turns 13 on July 22, would be following his dad’s footsteps at Eton or his mother’s at Marlborough College, a co-ed boarding school.

In fact, the Princess of Wales even paid a visit to her alma mater back in 2023, igniting rumors of her interest in taking her kids there. “Catherine was here the other day,” a source told Richard Eden to the Daily Mail in October 2023. “It’s been the talk of the school.”

In addition to Middleton and her two siblings, Pippa and James Middleton, Princess Eugenie also attended Marlborough College.

Located in the English county of Berkshire, Eton College is a boys-only boarding school educating boys from 13 to 18 years old and accepting around 270 students per academic year. Not only is the school prestigious, but it’s expensive too, with a current annual fee of £63,298.80 (about $84,900), per CNN. In addition to William and Harry, Eton alumni include 20 of the country’s 58 prime ministers, including former Conservative prime ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron, as well as major actors, like Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston.

George, who’s second in line to the throne behind his father, was last seen at the Trooping the Colour on June 13. He sported a baby blue tie to match his mother and stood tall on the Buckingham Palace balcony behind his sister, 11-year-old Princess Charlotte, and his younger brother, 8-year-old Prince Louis.
