Bomb squad evacuate Barnstaple street during England game after discovery

Another DevonLive reader reported that her mum was evacuated from Pilton Street and the road was closed as of around 8.15pm. She said she was informed by a police officer of a “potential bomb in one of the houses”. By around 9.30pm she had been told by a neighbour that it was safe to return, however.

It is unclear how many residents were affected by the evacuation. Previous ordnance discoveries in Devon and Plymouth have caused days of disruption affecting a wide radius – typically starting at 100m and then moving outwards if deemed necessary.

It seems this time authorities did not require a wider cordon as at least one Pilton Street business reports they were unaffected and able to open as usual this evening.
