Fearing flood risk? Alabama Power releases safety guidelines for upcoming weather

As the flood risks roll in, Alabama Power’s storm team and crews reassure their customers that they’re ready to respond to the severe weather anticipated for Thursday, June 18, and Friday, June 19.

Crews and equipment have been stationed in the areas they’ve determined as the most likely to be impacted. They’ve taken measures such as adjusting work schedules, coordinating with their partners to provide extra support and positioning additional crews.

People should be prepared for periods of heavy rain, strong winds and potentially stronger storms. There’s a real risk of trees falling due to Alabama’s high amount of forestation, making downed lines the most common cause of outages.

Customers are encouraged to stay weather-aware. You can check their outage map, follow Alabama Power on socials and keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • Take immediate shelter if you’re caught in the storm. This should be inside a sturdy building and away from windows, doors and electrical appliances.
  • Avoid contact with conductors of electricity like metal objects, water and appliances.
  • Report outages to Alabama Power for faster response times. You can get in contact with them by texting “enroll” to APCOUT (272688) or by going to AlabamaPower.com/Alerts.
  • Check their outage map to see outages in your area.
