Mum, 33, opens cake shed for Bracknell community

Mirela, 33, officially opened The Cake Shed at the end of May in South Hill Park, offering a selection of homemade good including brownies, cookies, cupcakes and dessert pots.

The logistics coordinator, who has two young children, found her love of baking when she lived in Bulgaria, having trained through online courses with professional cake makers.

She moved to Bracknell in 2018.

Mirela said the idea for the shed came after the success of baking goods for neighbours, who would pay her for the ingredients or the products she baked.

She said: “I love baking and I love the idea of having something separate.

“Also, I wanted to be there for my customers who wanted to try my sweet goods but don’t want a whole cake or a whole tray of brownies and they just wanted to go for something small and affordable.

“I’ve started to bake for all kinds of customers. Before I would do it just for my neighbours.”

Mirela said she did all of her own research into launching the shed, which has a QR code for people to scan when they pick up a product for purchase.

Products include chocolate, lemon and honey cupcake flavours and brownie flavours which include Biscoff, chocolate and pistachio and Oreo.

She also sells kinder cookies pies, as well as Biscoff, chocolate, hazelnut chocolate and pistachio cookie flavours.

She said: “This has always been a dream of mine.

“After cooking and baking, it was my passion so I have finally found my spot and my place.

“Of course, I have learned a lot from Bulgaria and I have tried everything that was there.

“I learned how to mix the cakes properly, how to store them, the fact you have to wash the eggs before you crack them, how to label everything.”

Rather than taking on events or markets, Mirela said The Cake Shed gives her the flexibility to fit baking around her full-time job and looking after her children.

She said: “I like that I can do it in my own time so I try to cook when my children are asleep which is perfect for me. I wake up at 5am and go back to bed at 1am.

“My children love [when I’m baking], especially my little one.

“When she sees that I’m making cake and doing the colours, she is so so excited even though she is not allowed to go near the kitchen when I’m working.”

Although The Cake Shed recently opened, Mirela said she has been inundated with orders and positive reviews.

She said: “Everyone was so happy [when I opened].

“It was a little bit hard in the beginning to get customers understand that they need to let me know what they want for their order but I am nearly there and I can cater to what the customer wants.”
