Brazil star Raphinha leaves World Cup match against Haiti with injury

Brazil star Raphinha was injured in the first half of Brazil’s Group C World Cup match against Haiti on Friday, June 19 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. In the 39th minute, Raphinha crouched to the ground and was surrounded by his teammates and medical staff.

He shook hands with goalkeeper Alisson and forward Vinícius Júnior as he rose from the pitch and then hobbled to the sideline under his own power. Vinícius appeared to point at Raphinha’s hamstring. Raphinha missed a handful of friendlies in the fall due to injury and one in March against Croatia after he was hurt in a loss to France.

Rayan came in the game as the substitution for the FC Barcelona winger. The two shared a hug as they met at the sideline. Raphinha kept his head down as his teammates on the bench and manager Carlo Ancelotti patted him on the back.

Brazil was up 2-0 at the time, with Matheus Cunha scoring a pair of goals. Vinícius would later add a third to make it 3-0.

Raphinha nearly scored a goal earlier in the match, but his shot went wide right and he was ruled offsides.
