Moshe Kasher revealed he’s been diagnosed with cancer.
Three months ago, while producing Judd Apatow and Glen Powell’s upcoming film, The Comeback King, in Savannah, Ga., the 46-year-old comedian found a “bump” on his tonsil, he told fans on Instagram. The discovery led to a diagnosis of HPV-positive tonsil cancer.
“It was cancer. Which did not rule so hard,” Kasher, who shares an 8-year-old daughter with wife Natasha Leggero, wrote on alongside a photo of himself in a hospital gown with a tube coming out of the side of his neck. “happy father’s day. some lousy news. I wrote this on so much oxy.”

Although he emphasized that navigating his cancer journey over the past few months has been “the most terrifying and consciousness-consuming experience of my life,” Kasher maintained his sense of humor while sharing insight into a recent surgery.

“Two days ago, a Jewish surgery robot at Cedars-Sinai yanked my jaw open for 5 hours and cut it out and then slit my throat and dissected my neck leaving me with a hardcore neck scar which will make people reluctant to street fight me,” he wrote alongside a diagram of the procedure. “My tongue was clamped and yanked out of my mouth and is so swollen and bruised. I sound like I Am Sam.“
“The people at Cedars are all such kind pros and I feel like I’m in the best hands possible,” he continued. “I’m in pain and I’m in the middle of a very difficult process. It’s gonna be a long summer. But the good news is the cancer I have has an incredibly high cure rate (in the 95% zone).”
Although he continued to spend 21-hour days pitching jokes on set, Kasher admitted that his life has been riddled with “terror, medication, tears and medical planning.” And for that reason, he made it his goal to encourage others to get checked and vaccinate their children.

“I truly cannot believe I managed to work an entire movie while dealing with this,” he wrote in the post. “But Judd could not have been a more kind, supportive and nurturing friend all while on the verge of a five hour energy overdose from his terrifying habit.”
“As for getting through this — I am,” he added. “I will continue. I will get better. I’m so grateful I have a life that’s worth living and a kid to raise this Father’s Day.”
Hours after Kasher opened up about his cancer journey on social media, Apatow, 58, joined many of the comedian’s famous friends in commending him for being one of the kindest, strongest, and funniest people he knows in the comments.
“Heal fast and easy,” the director wrote before going on to quip, “Also- Five Hour Energy Drinks can really help on those tiring days. I’m also a fan of Patron Silver and Mountain Dew. This post has been sponsored.”
