Matt Damon’s Best Movie of All Time Heads to a New Streaming Home

Right now, the world is supercharged for Matt Damon’s next big screen project, following the magnificent hit, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, but we still have close to a year before it arrives. Titled The Odyssey, the epic fantasy is another Nolan collaboration featuring a star-studded cast, and is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026. As the months slowly go by, what better way to pass the time than to catch up on some classic favorites on streaming, including Damon’s best movie of all time — and no, it’s not a Bourne movie.

Good Will Hunting is hands down the prolific actor’s most favored production worldwide, both by fans and critics, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck. The movie hit U.S. theaters on January 9, 1998, after its 1997 premiere, and soon became available on multiple streaming platforms both domestically and internationally. Paramount+ is now joining the bunch as Good Will Hunting will be added to the streamer on October 1, 2025.

Starring beside Damon in the emotional masterpiece were Robin Williams, Ben and Casey Affleck, Stellan Skarsgård, Minnie Driver, and Cole Hauser, among others. Good Will Hunting tells the story of Damon’s character, Will Hunting, a janitor at MIT with a genius-level IQ who gets discovered by Professor Gerald Lambeau (Skarsgård) when he solves a complex, graduate-level math problem. As a misguided youth, Will has quite the rap sheet and gets arrested for attacking a police officer, but thanks to Professor Lambeau, he doesn’t get to serve time as the professor makes a deal to get leniency for Will if he gets treatment from therapist Sean Maguire (Williams).

‘Good Will Hunting’ Is Matt Damon’s Best Work as a Writer

While Good Will Hunting is regarded as Damon’s most outstanding movie, he didn’t receive an Oscar for his performance, but Williams won for Best Supporting Actor. The Elysium actor was instead awarded for Best Original Screenplay with Affleck. Additionally, the 1997 drama was a huge financial success, grossing more than twenty times its $10 million budget during its theatrical run. And as of this writing, it holds a Certified Fresh 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics’ consensus praising the “powerful performances,” which, alongside its “quirks,” make Good Will Hunting “an entertaining, emotionally rich drama.”

Good Will Hunting streams on Paramount+ soon. Stick with Collider for further streaming news.
