Explained: Erling Haaland’s ‘zen’ celebration

Erling Haaland often marks goals by performing a meditative pose, akin to the lotus position in yoga.
The Norwegian striker sits cross-legged, rests the backs of his wrists on his knees, touches the tips of his index fingers to his thumbs and closes his eyes.
Haaland first did his now famous ‘zen’ celebration after getting into meditation during his early years playing for Molde in Norway, then continued it at Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.
“I really enjoy meditation,” he said. “It makes me feel calm and gives me tranquillity. This is why I sometimes celebrate like that when I score.”
