Slovakian Olympic star Samuel Hlavaj signed a one-year contract with the team, it announced on Friday.
Hlavaj marks the second goalie the Maple Leafs have signed this off-season after also inking two-time Stanley Cup champion Sergei Bobrovsky to a three-year, $21-million deal.
The 25-year-old started every game for Slovakia at the Olympics, including an opening 4-1 upset over Finland in which he made 39 saves. Hlavaj finished the Olympics with a 2-3 record, .908 save percentage and 3.56 goals-against average.
Hlavaj will likely pair with prospect Artur Akhtyamov in the defending-champion Toronto Marlies’ crease.
The Maple Leafs also brought back a member of that championship team in forward Vinni Lettieri, who also signed a one-year deal.
The 31-year-old has 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 23 post-season games.
