Channel 4’s acclaimed documentary series, 24 Hours in Police Custody, returns this evening with a “brutal” episode accompanied by viewer guidance.

The groundbreaking documentary has surged in popularity since its debut more than a decade ago. Channel 4 audiences now eagerly anticipate fresh episodes, regularly calling for more frequent releases.

Earlier this year, new episodes broadcast on the channel examined distressing cases, once again plunging viewers into real-life investigations as detectives work against the clock to secure justice.

Officers frequently uncover disturbing realities in their pursuit of justice, with cases spanning from drugs investigations to murder, each leaving a profound impact on audiences.

This evening, a “brutal” episode will broadcast on Channel 4 at 9pm, though viewers have been cautioned in advance, reports the Mirror.

Entitled A Moment of Madness, a Channel 4 synopsis states: “This episode explodes onto screens as a blood-soaked man walks out of a hotel lift holding a fire extinguisher and shouting that he’s killed someone. Can detectives disentangle what happened?”.

The episode is a repeat from 2017, though a warning appears on Channel 4’s streaming platform accompanying the programme.

It states: “Strong language and images and descriptions of a brutal attack which some viewers may find upsetting. This programme isn’t suitable for younger viewers.”

This evening’s episode immerses viewers in the disturbing 999 call placed after a man was seen at the hotel carrying a fire extinguisher, featuring accounts from the initial officers who responded. Police constable Georgina Kindred confessed: “I knew I was out of my depth”.

The episode also features disturbing CCTV footage alongside urgent bodycam recordings as officers piece together what actually occurred.
