A man in his 20s was fatally shot Friday evening in Seattle’s Lake City neighborhood, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded about 8 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 12000 block of 40th Avenue Northeast.

When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Investigators have not released the victim’s identity.

The killing marks Seattle’s first homicide of July after the city went the entire month of June without a homicide. According to the Seattle Police Department, June was Seattle’s first homicide-free June since 1970.

Police said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Detectives are searching for both the suspect and the vehicle believed to be involved, but no descriptions have been released.
