Tuchel ‘doesn’t expect’ a ‘hostile environment’ at ‘iconic’ Azteca

England face co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, which is more than 2,000 metres above sea level.
There are numerous studies that show that high altitude can reduce the physical performance of humans, and that they require weeks experiencing the circumstances before their body starts to properly adjust the ability of its blood to carry sufficient oxygen.
Due to the paucity of oxygen in the air at such elevated levels, England’s players will face additional demands during the last-16 match against tough opposition.
Athletes often prepare at higher altitude for weeks before an event in such locations to prepare their body for the change in circumstances, or to simply give them an advantage when they return to more quotidian heights.
There had been some speculation that England players would use Viagra to aid with the adjustment and nature of the environment.
Viagra is used to relax blood vessels, and found success predominantly in order to treat erectile dysfunction. It can also be used to treat certain types of hypertension.

As a result of its effect on circulation, it might have been employed to counteract some of the symptoms of altitude sickness.
It is also believed to mitigate fatigue and dizziness caused by the low concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere.
However, speaking to reporters in Mexico, Tuchel took an amused stance before denying that it was under discussion as a possibility.
“The information and the support didn’t reach me. That is not true,” Tuchel said, smiling.
Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson may not have helped when he answered his own question about the demands of the occasion in Mexico, saying: “Well, the Viagra helps.
“I’m joking, it’s a joke.”
