Missing 11-year-old Toledo girl’s body found near Lake Erie shore, death deemed accidental

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The body found in Lake Erie near the shore in Jerusalem Township on Sunday has been confirmed to be that of a missing Toledo girl.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office released a statement Monday confirming the body is that of 11-year-old Angelique Cunningham.

Cunningham’s cause of death was determined to be drowning and the manner of death was classified as an accident, according to the Deputy Coroner.

First responders began searching for 11-year-old Angelique Cunningham on the morning of July 2.

Investigators said Cunningham went out on a boat on Lake Erie around 10:30 p.m. on July 1 with Kristen Gerrie, who has since been charged with child endangerment, and Jonathan Ciha, whose body was found in the water on July 2.

The coroner said Ciha died by drowning. Additional circumstances surrounding his death are unclear.

Authorities said Cunningham was in Gerrie’s care when she went missing. Lucas County Sheriff Navarre said the young girl was missing from the boat in Lake Erie less than 15 minutes after the boat left Meinke Marina in Jerusalem Township.
