El Paso County to declare June 11-July 19, 2026, as ‘World Cup Season’

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso County leaders are set to formally recognize the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a resolution declaring June 11 through July 19, 2026, as “World Cup Season” in El Paso County, Texas.
County Judge Ricardo A. Samaniego invited soccer fans, players and community members to attend the presentation of the resolution during an upcoming meeting of the El Paso County Commissioners Court on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
The meeting will be held at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse, in the Alicia Chacon Commissioner Courtroom, 500 E. San Antonio, third floor, in El Paso.
The recognition is intended to celebrate local soccer achievements, including those of Alejandro “Alex” Zendejas, who is set to represent the United States Men’s National Team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Zendejas was born in neighboring Ciudad Juárez and raised in El Paso.
He has played professionally for Liga MX clubs including Chivas de Guadalajara and Club América, and has also represented the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Family members of Zendejas are expected to formally receive the resolution and deliver remarks on his behalf.
Officials with El Paso County said they are planning a separate resolution recognition for Ricardo Pepi, the other El Pasoan playing with Team USA.
The El Paso County Law Library will also have a kiosk available where fans can take pictures with a soccer-themed background as part of the celebration.
Samaniego encouraged attendees to wear their favorite team jerseys, especially those of the U.S. Men’s National Team, or to wear red, white and blue attire.
