According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office jail roster, Gillum was taken into custody on July 2 at 10:44 p.m. local time for “Possession Of Dangerous Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia-1st Offense, and Possession of Marijuana 2nd.”
The jail roster indicates he was released from custody on July 3.
WCTV has reached out to the Baldwin County Clerk of Court for a copy of his arrest records.
This is not Gillum’s first time facing criminal charges.
In 2022, he was indicted on multiple federal charges connected to campaign contribution fraud before and during his 2018 run for governor of Florida.
In 2023, he was found not guilty of lying to the FBI, and the remaining 18 charges against him were ultimately dropped.
Gillum served as Tallahassee mayor from 2014 to 2018. He was also the Democratic challenger to Ron DeSantis during the 2018 General Election. He nearly won that election, obtaining 49.2% of the vote compared to the governor’s 49.6%.
In the primary election for that race, Gillum narrowly defeated former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, who is now running for lieutenant governor.
His departure from the Tallahassee City Commission ushered in a new mayor and commissioners, who often reference the corruption probe as a negative time in the capital city’s history.
Back then, the Florida ethics panel entered into a $5,000 settlement with Gillum.
According to previous reporting, in March of 2020, after his election loss, Gillum was found having overdosed on meth in a Miami hotel room.
