The New York Yankees look to get back on track in the Sunshine State.
Coming in losing 13 of their last 17 games, the Yankees flipped the script with a 5-1 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays in the series opener on Monday night at Tropicana Field.
The win was only the second Yankees victory since June 24, which featured a seven-game losing streak getting swept by both the struggling Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers.
Cam Schlittler, a first-time All-Star and the current favorite to win the Cy Young in the American League, had a bounce back effort, completing eight innings for the first time in over two months (Apr. 23 against Red Sox) and finished with eight strikeouts and one run allowed on four hits.
The win was short-lived, as the Rays responded with three home runs off of Yankees’ starter Will Warren in Tampa Bay’s 6-4 win on Tuesday night.
