Micron to pour foundation for first Clay fabrication plant, months ahead of schedule

Local, state and federal leaders are expected to gather at 10 a.m. Thursday, as Micron pours the concrete foundation for its first fabrication plant in Clay, a milestone the company says is arriving sooner than expected.

The concrete pour comes less than six months after Micron first broke ground in Clay. The company said it is moving faster than planned and is currently several months ahead of schedule.

“For now we’re going to keep moving as fast as we can and we’re going to keep our eyes focused on the next milestone after this… which is if you look forward three months from now we’ll have a substantial part of the foundation done,” said Micron Senior Director of Program Management Carson Henry.

He added, “Six months we’ll start to see the horizontal part done so the pad, that will become the foundation of the fab…and about a year from now you’ll see a building out of the sky as we start towards moving towards weather tight.”

Micron said construction will start on the second of four fabrication plants in 2028, and once complete, the site will be the largest chip plant in America.
