Marcus Spears Jr., son of ESPN analyst Marcus Spears, commits to Texas, with a twist

Marcus Spears Jr., the top-ranked basketball recruit in the country, has made his college decision.
The son of ESPN analyst and former NFL player Marcus Spears will play college basketball at Texas, he announced Thursday on Instagram.
Spears Jr. has reclassified to the class of 2026 and will play for the Longhorns this upcoming season.
Spears was ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in the country for the class of 2027.
The 6-8 power forward attended Dynamic Prep High School in Texas.
Spears held offers from most of the top programs in the country, including North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama and Houston. He also was offered by LSU, where his father starred.
As for Marcus Spears Sr., he is an NFL analyst for ESPN after previously covering college football for the SEC Network. During his playing days, Spears was an All-SEC and All-American performer during his time with the Tigers.
He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft and went on to spend eight seasons in Dallas, appearing in 119 games and recording 10 sacks for the Cowboys.
Spears ended his career with the Baltimore Ravens, appearing in five games and making 10 tackles in 2013 — his final NFL season.
In addition to starring on the football field, Marcus Spears Sr. was also one of the top basketball players in the country coming out of high school. He averaged 23.7 points and 15 rebounds per game as a senior.
